Todd Abrajano is the President & CEO of the United States Nuclear Industry Council where he serves as USNIC's chief advocate in its mission to advance the development and implementation of new nuclear technology and services to secure the U.S. economic supply chain in America and abroad. 

 

Additionally, he leads the promotion of USNIC’s vision to advance nuclear energy to be established, recognized, and accepted world-wide as an essential baseload, emissions-free, reliable, and clean energy source, as well as promoting the expansion of the use of nuclear for space, medical, propulsion and other advanced applications. 

 

Previously, Mr. Abrajano was the Founder and President of Turning Point Public Affairs. For nearly 13 years, the firm assisted corporate, non-profit, and political clients with international markets and business development, government affairs, strategic communications, political strategy, and legislative and regulatory grassroots advocacy.

 

From 2017- 2021, Mr. Abrajano served as a senior-level presidential appointee in the U.S. Federal Government. He began his federal service at the U.S. Department of Commerce as the Department's White House Liaison and a top advisor to former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. 

 

In 2018, he transitioned to the U.S. Trade and Development Agency where he ultimately served as the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Agency, leading the Agency’s global export promotion efforts supporting U.S. jobs and businesses in priority development projects within emerging markets in the energy, transportation, ICT, healthcare and agribusiness sectors.

Dr. Rita Baranwal is the Chief Nuclear Officer at Radiant, the company pioneering the world’s first mass-produced portable nuclear microreactor. Dr. Baranwal is a former Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy and brings decades of leadership experience across the public and private sectors of the nuclear energy industry, with a distinguished track record of advancing innovation in nuclear technology. 

Prior to joining Radiant, Dr. Baranwal served as Senior Vice President of the AP300 Small Modular Reactor program at Westinghouse Electric Company, leading development and licensing of one of the industry’s most promising next-generation nuclear designs. She was previously Chief Technology Officer at Westinghouse, overseeing global research and development, engineering, and advanced reactor technologies. 

From 2019 to 2021, Dr. Baranwal served as Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. In that role, she directed the department’s efforts to promote nuclear power as a key part of America’s energy future, managing a broad portfolio of research programs and public-private partnerships. 

Earlier in her career, Dr. Baranwal was the inaugural director the Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) initiative at Idaho National Laboratory and held key technical leadership positions at Bechtel Bettis, Inc., supporting the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. 

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan. 

Dr. Baranwal is a widely respected voice in the global nuclear community and a passionate advocate for deploying advanced nuclear technologies to meet the world’s growing demand for reliable energy.

Previously, he held positions as CFO, COO, and Chief Strategy Officer at NuScale Power, as well as Senior Vice President at UniStar Nuclear Energy, where he led development of U.S. EPR projects. With over 15 years of experience in developing and financing 6500 MW of fossil-fueled projects, Chris began his career in power project development at Bechtel. Tom Greatrex became Chief Executive of the NIA in 2016. Formerly Member of Parliament for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, Tom was shadow energy minister from 2011 – 2015 and served as a member of the Energy Select Committee from 2010 and from 2007-2010 was a policy adviser in the Scotland Office, including on energy.  

In a varied prior career, he was a Director of Corporate Affairs for the NHS in Scotland, a chief officer in local government and a GMB trade union official in England. Outside of work his main interests are family, football (Fulham) and film. He is a member of the FA Council, the governing body of English football, vice-chair of the Football Supporters’ Association and a school governor.

Nicky has over 25 years experience in Investment Banking. She originally joined the US Institutional Desk at Goldman Sachs before moving across the ‘wall’ into the Special Execution Group in Corporate Finance where she specialised in Debt Capital Markets. After being hired to join UBS as part of their Transaction Management Team – she focused on Global Capital Markets with a particular focus on Emerging Markets. She then was rehired to Goldman Sachs as an Executive Director and joined their Equity Capital Markets team covering UK companies and was also part of the original Corporate Broking Team. Nicky initially started as a consultant to Ocean Wall but in September 2020 joined full time as Head of Corporate Advisory.  Ocean Wall are a UK Merchant Bank with a deep, research-led sector coverage in New Energy and particularly the Nuclear Fuel Cycle.  Nicky looks after 20 corporate relationships and, with her background in Equity Capital Markets, runs the capital raising efforts across public and private markets.

Thomas R. Hardy serves as the Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), performing the duties and responsibilities of the Agency’s Director. The Trump Administration appointed Mr. Hardy as USTDA’s Acting Director in January 2025, before he transitioned to his current role in November 2025. Mr. Hardy leads the Agency’s global efforts to advance high-quality infrastructure projects that strengthen U.S. national security, create export opportunities for U.S. goods and services, and support U.S. job creation. USTDA is the U.S. government’s first mover on critical infrastructure development abroad, advancing the shared strategic priorities of the United States and its overseas partners by deploying U.S. technological expertise.

He was previously appointed by President Trump to serve as USTDA’s Acting Director from 2017 to 2020, where he helped transform the Agency to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global environment. Mr. Hardy has also held multiple leadership positions at the Agency including Director of Policy and Program Management, Chief of Staff and Country Manager for the East Asia and sub-Saharan Africa regions.

Carl B. Kress is Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Eurasia. As Regional Director he and his team develop infrastructure projects of strategic priority in critical minerals, digital infrastructure, energy and transportation that position U.S. companies to partner with local public and private sector project developers. He also co-leads USTDA’s Worldwide Energy Industry Team, which has a particular focus on nuclear power and natural gas infrastructure development around the globe.

Before joining the agency in 2001, Mr. Kress held legal and legislative positions in government and the private sector. His previous experience includes serving as counsel to Commissioner Thelma J. Askey at the U.S. International Trade Commission, as an attorney with an international law firm where he focused on international trade matters, and on the staffs of members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Mr. Kress holds a B.A. degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also holds an LL.M. degree in German law from the University of Hamburg, Germany.

Rafał Kasprów has served as CEO of SGE since 2019. SGE operates as a European platform for the deployment of BWRX-300. He also serves as CEO of OSGE, a joint venture between SGE and ORLEN, responsible for developing the BWRX-300 program in Poland. He has cooperated with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy since 2008 and has been a part of the BWRX-300 journey in Europe from the very early stages, through Technology Collaboration Agreement, design and project development, to the current deployment phase.

For nearly two decades, he was a Managing Partner at a consulting firm advising leading companies in the energy, oil, telecommunications, and commodities sectors, including ORLEN, Synthos, Mercuria Energy Trading, Orange, Polkomtel, GE Capital, GE International, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, and KGHM. He also advised the Ministry of the State Treasury, the World Bank, and Poland’s largest crude oil supplier on strategic matters in the oil and gas sector. Earlier in his career, he served on the Supervisory Board of the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) and Polish Telecommunications Internet.

Before entering the energy sector, he worked as a journalist, writing on economics and politics.

He studied at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and the University of Warsaw, where he pursued Political Science, he also earned an MBA from the University of Quebec in Montreal.

He has been a fellow of the Reuters Foundation, the U.S. Department of State, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and Freedom House.

Maria Korsnick is president and chief executive officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute, the nuclear industry’s policy organization in Washington, D.C., a role she has held since January 1, 2017. 

 

Drawing on her engineering background, hands-on experience in reactor operations and a deep knowledge of energy policy and regulatory issues, Korsnick aims to increase understanding of nuclear energy’s economic and environmental benefits among policymakers and the public. 

 

As part of her duty to NEI’s members, she serves as a member of the boards of directors of the U.S. Energy Association and the Foundation for Nuclear Studies. She also serves as a trustee of the Nuclear Power Labor Management Cooperation Committee Trust, vice chair of the University of Maryland Department of Mechanical Engineering External Advisory Committee, and a member of the Purdue University School of Nuclear Engineering Advisory Board. 

 

Before joining NEI, she was senior vice president of Northeast Operations for Exelon, responsible for overseeing operation of the Calvert Cliffs 1 and 2, R.E. Ginna, and Nine Mile Point 1 and 2 nuclear power plants.  

 

Before Exelon, Korsnick served as chief nuclear officer (CNO) and acting chief executive officer at Constellation Energy Nuclear Group. She began her career at Constellation in 1986 and held positions of increasing responsibility, including engineer, operator, manager, site vice president, corporate vice president, and CNO. 

 

Korsnick holds a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Maryland, and has held a Senior Reactor Operator license. She lives in Maryland with her husband, and they are the parents of two adult children.

Professor Giorgio Locatelli is a Full Professor at the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano, where he founded and leads the Complex Projects Business major. His work sits at the intersection of nuclear energy, megaproject management, and complex systems, with a particular focus on nuclear new build, small modular reactors, decommissioning, financing, governance, modularization, risk management, and value creation. With more than 200 scientific publications he also serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of “Project Management Journal” (the scientific journal of the Project Management Institute- PMI) and has been included in the Stanford-Elsevier top 2% scientists ranking since 2020.  

  

For this training session, Professor Locatelli brings both academic depth and practical perspective regarding megaprojects. His work is especially valued for translating lessons from megaproject governance, delivery, and finance into concrete insights for improving the performance of large, complex nuclear projects. He has collaborated with the International Atomic Energy Agency since 2009, has taught repeatedly on IAEA Courses, and has contributed to policy and advisory work on nuclear financing and deployment for governments, industry, and international organisations. As “scientific deputy director” of the Italian nuclear Joint Research Partnership, Prof. Locatelli is actively working with Italian stakeholders (utilities, industries, public administration) for the restarting of the Italian nuclear programme.

William D. Magwood, IV has served as Director General of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) since 1 September 2014. He brings extensive experience in both nuclear regulation and nuclear energy development at national and international levels. From 2010 to 2014, he was one of the five Commissioners of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, promoting strong and independent nuclear regulation worldwide. Earlier, from 2005 to 2010, he worked as an independent strategic adviser on energy, environmental and technology policy.

Between 1998 and 2005, he directed the U.S. Government’s civilian nuclear energy

programme at the Department of Energy, where he established the Idaho National

Laboratory, revitalised nuclear technology education, and launched major initiatives such as the Generation IV International Forum and Nuclear Power 2010. His career also includes roles at the Edison Electric Institute and Westinghouse. He holds degrees in Physics, English, and a Master of Fine Arts.

As Senior Vice President of Global Business Development and Deputy Chief Commercial Officer of X-energy, Dr. Reinke acts as the head of corporate-wide business development activities. He is responsible for all commercial reactor business development and sales – strategy and marketing, analytics, organizational management, customer relationship development, contract negotiations, capture management, and early-phase project management. In this capacity, he also serves as principal deputy to the Chief Commercial Officer of X-energy in the management and oversight of key functions within DevCo., including Global Business Development, Project Management, Supply Chain/Strategic Sourcing, and Project Finance. Dr. Reinke provides strategic direction to the functions to enable X-energy’s end-to-end project deployment model, from customer origination through project delivery.

Dr. Reinke originally joined X-energy as the Senior Director for Corporate Strategy and Advisor to the CEO, leading long-term strategic planning for the company and supporting key functions ranging from business planning to business development, and strategic partnerships to strategic supplier relations. He later assumed the role of Vice President for Global Business Development.

Dr. Reinke is an energy executive with expertise in science and innovation, clean energy technology development, nuclear systems, critical minerals and materials, space science and technology, and the nexus of energy security and national security. His leadership, management, business development, and policy experiences span the private sector, both the legislative and executive branches, and academia.

Dr. Reinke holds his Ph.D. and M.S. in nuclear engineering, as well as his B.S. in physics and French from the Ohio State University, where he was a NASA Space Technology Research Fellow and a Nuclear Regulatory Commission Fellow.

Lorenzo Santini is Director of Nuclear Business Development at Worley, with over 24 years of international experience advancing civil nuclear projects from early feasibility through deployment. A PhD‑qualified nuclear engineer and certified Project Management Professional (PMP), he has supported governments, utilities, and private developers across Europe, the Middle East, and emerging markets on technology‑neutral assessments, owner advisory, licensing strategy, delivery risk reduction, and EPC execution for large nuclear and SMR programs. Lorenzo has spoken at numerous international conferences, workshops, and training programs on nuclear project development, deployability, and bankability. He is an IAEA Subject Matter Expert and a frequent contributor to international nuclear forums and technical literature.
